The first public poll on Minnesota's U.S. Senate race since the DFL convention, and the first one to test the possible entrance of Jesse Ventura into the race, is up on the website of Rasmussen Reports, which conducted the poll.

In a head-to-head matchup, it shows Republican incumbent Sen. Norm Coleman leading DFL endorsee Al Franken by a statistically insignificant 48-45 percent margin.

For all the recent hullaballoo about Franken's offensive writings, the poll shows little movement from one taken by Rasmussen May 22, which showed Coleman leading Franken by 47-45.

In the latest poll, when respondents were offered former Gov. Ventura as a third choice, he shows up in third place, and Coleman's lead grows slightly. The result was Coleman 39 percent, Franken 32, Ventura 24.

The survey, conducted Wednesday, is based on telephone interviews with 500 likely voters. The margin for sampling error is plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
