I think conservative anger is misplaced. To a large extent, Obama is only cleaning up messes created by Bush. This is not to say Obama hasn’t made mistakes himself, but even they can be blamed on Bush insofar as Bush’s incompetence led to the election of a Democrat. If he had done half as good a job as most Republicans have talked themselves into believing he did, McCain would have won easily.

Conservative protesters should remember that the recession, which led to so many of the policies they oppose, is almost entirely the result of Bush’s policies. According to the National Bureau of Economic Research, the recession began in December 2007—long before Obama was even nominated. And the previous recession ended in November 2001, so the current recession cannot be blamed on cyclical forces that Bush inherited.

According to the CBO, federal taxes will amount to just 15.5 percent of GDP this year. That’s 2.2 percent of GDP less than last year, 3.3 percent less than in 2007, and 1.8 percent less than the lowest percentage recorded during the Reagan years. If conservatives really believe their own rhetoric, they should be congratulating Obama for being one of the greatest tax cutters in history.

Richard, perhaps you could enlighten us and tell us which regulations/laws/policies would have saved us from the recession. Since you want to imply partisan ownership, could you also please tell us when various Democrats suggested those things? Thanks in advance!

Peder. With all due respect I vote for both sides and I vote issues not ideology.
My point was that the fringe that are all the "rage" right now, have their facts confused with dogma and ideology. I found that there was an amusing amount of irony to tease out of those facts. Perhaps when the left tries to amuse us with some similar antics I will respond with a ironic approach as well.

It would be fair to say that no one party owns foolishness. I simply was referring to a current event and using some fact to address my point. Please do not internalize it or take it personally. Life it too short. Gotta go, walleye's are up on the reef chasing bait fish.

Richard, I don't know if you were detecting bitterness from me or not but I can assure you that I'm not really feeling any. I've simply heard Bush (or Republicans in general) blamed pretty regularly for the recession and have yet to see anyone really answer the questions I've posed. And really the answer for what caused the current bad spot for the economy is a pretty important question. Presumably we could learn something from it and maybe stop repeating the same economic mistakes. Well, one can hope anyway.
