    Congressman/Heckler Wilson apologizes, Obama accepts

By Eric Black | Published Thu, Sep 10 2009 1:45 pm

I tried not to get too excited about U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's "you lie" outburst in the House chamber last night, but I'm glad to see that he has apologized and Pres. Obama has accepted the apology. Obama also used the moment to encourage the media to stay focused on the issues and not allow silliness to dominate the news cycle.

He made the remarks to reporters as he exited a cabinet meeting:

REPORTER: Do you accept Wilson's apology, sir?

THE PRESIDENT:  Yes, I do.  I'm a big believer that we all make mistakes.  He apologized quickly and without equivocation, and I'm appreciative of that...

The media can always be helpful by not giving all the attention to the loudest or shrillest voices, and try to stay a little bit more focused on the issues at hand.
