Prediction: the House will pass a bill with some sort of public option; the Senate will pass something without (after failed attempts to amend in the full Senate).
It will then come to a conference committee to reconcile the House and Senate bills, which is where Obama would have his most influence.
We'll see .....

Finally bipartisan support.

There are a few health care issues needing attention. This however has turned into "who's got the biggest one" contest. Corrective actions are not complicated, do not require 1,000 pages of obscure sections. Do 70,000 HHS employees at a cost of $850B add to our health care?

This issue has too many constituents. IMHO, it is at its foundation a redistribution of health care dollars from the elderly to others.

It seems to me any dem or repub who votes for a public option put his/her reelection at risk, unless he/she represents a 90% dem constituency.

It might fare a little better if someone dared to actually put out a specimen policy that would show the actual coverage provided by the plan.

But even so, it seems to me the public shares a widespread skepticism about the government actually doing -- rather than regulating -- any kind of activity except war, where cost is no object and snafus are expected.

One size fits all -- the federal government's forte, is definitely not going to work for health care. And cost (as opposed to payments), which is NOT being dealt with in any of the current bills, is a BIG concern for health care, whether we pay it by premiums or taxes.
