    Klobuchar...in Iowa...hmmm?

By Eric Black | Published Mon, Mar 30 2009 11:05 am

This is probably silly, but when U.S. senators who don't represent Iowa turn up in Iowa it is generally assumed that they aren't looking for a potential retirement community.

Sen. Amy Klobuchar, who is frequently described as a rising star in the Democratic firmament, took a few hours after visiting the endangered Red River areas of her own state to nip down to Des Moines and speak at a summit arranged by the Democratic Activist Women's Network.

The Des Moines Register coverage of the event also brought out a surprising fact: Iowa is one of only two states (Mississippi is the other) that have never elected a woman to either house of Congress.
