MinnPost Job Opening: Programmer/Developer (part time or contract)

MinnPost is looking for an innovative part-time web developer/programmer

This candidate should have a background in web development, preferably — though not necessarily — in a journalistic context. We are looking for someone with a passion for clean, efficient programming to help us move MinnPost through a site redesign and CMS migration. Experience customizing and maintaining content management systems is a plus; knowledge and expertise with Drupal administration would be a big plus.

This is a part-time position. You will be expected to work in the office at least part of the time, but hours will be flexible.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, quickly evolving organization. Because MinnPost is a growing start-up, the individual we hire will help shape the future vision, content and function of MinnPost.com. Whoever we hire should be plugged into development and emerging media trends, and be able to research, recommend and apply new technologies as necessary.

Skills and experience:
• Experience customizing, maintaining content management systems
• Knowledge of Drupal administration highly desirable (CMS Framework, Themes, Modules, Core, etc.)
• Well versed in HTML, CSS, XML , PHP, MySQL and web standards
• Programming knowledge of JavaScript, jQuery
• Some knowledge of Ruby on Rails a plus
• Interest in data visualization and interactive, user-generated content
• Familiarity with open source software a plus
• Familiarity with SEO best practices a plus
• Understanding of browser compatibility

Additional requirements
• Strong communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative environment
• College graduate or equivalent experience
• Professional experience, or portfolio that demonstrates skill
• Office network administration understanding a plus (Windows Business Server with Exchange Server, and Windows Vista and Macintosh workstations)

Please send an e-mail as your cover letter with any relevant links and attach your resume to: jobs@minnpost.com, attention Kaeti Hinck. No phone calls, please.

Job open until filled.
