Fireworks, Team Edward and hotdish: Announcing the ‘amend the Constitution’ winner

Beginning March 28, MinnPost asked readers to join the Minnesota Legislature in amending the Minnesota Constitution, dangling a pair of Champions Club Twin tickets as incentive.  We asked for a one-sentence amendment — funny or insightful or both. Over two-dozen commenters proposed new amendments.

MinnPost takes pride in our thoughtful and intelligent commenters, but a few got a little too long-winded. Of those who kept it short and sweet, a few highlights:

“All persons are equal before the law; corporations are not people; and all property shall be taxed at the same rate, regardless of use or religious affiliation.” — Dave Porter

“Replace ‘God’ with ‘Flying Spaghetti Monster.’” — Jack Pellinen

“Claiming to be on Team Edward or Team Jacob without irony should be a misdemeanor.” — Amanda Scheid

“All Elected Officials must pass a basic math skills test and also prove that they can balance a checkbook.” — Hudson Leighton

“In order to be a confirmed citizen of Minnesota, all Minnesotan's must present a favorite hotdish recipe on demand.” — Virginia Rudloff

"Minnesota law shall automatically conform with the most fun elements of Wisconsin liquor and fireworks laws." — Zachary Krogman

In defiance of numerous legislative gift bans, MinnPost is please to present a pair of Champions Club tickets to the April 14 Twins vs. Rangers game to Erik Hansen for his Minnesota Nice Amendment:

“All residents, natural or otherwise, shall respectfully excuse themselves and/or apologize to any other resident for each and any personal interaction regardless of content or fault, eye contact is not required.”

We here at MinnPost would like to apologize to Mr. Hansen for his winning this contest and causing a spotlight, however dim, to shine on him and his achievement. He never asked for this kind of attention, and is probably regretting this whole endeavor. Congratulations to Erik and thanks to all who participated in this contest.

Twins Txs

I'll be more than happy to accept Twins Tickets any time. I do love that ball park.
Plus, my in-laws from outstate think we Minneapolis residents must get a discount, given how much we've put into it.
