Jim Klobuchar, one of Minnesota’s most prominent sports journalists, is joining MinnPost, offering his insights on the Minnesota Vikings’ upcoming season.

Jim’s debut MinnPost article -- "The second reincarnation of Brett Favre" -- appears on the site this morning. And beginning Sept. 14, Jim will offer MinnPost readers an analysis of each week’s Vikings game.

Jim knows the Vikings. He reported on the early years of the Vikings for the Minneapolis Star, and that coverage is still considered some of the strongest in team history. He was a daily columnist for the Star Tribune for 30 years and, in 1984, was named the country’s outstanding columnist for newspapers over 100,000 circulation by the National Society of Newspaper Columnists.

He retired from the newspaper several years ago, but is still writing on a variety of topics. This year he publishes his 23^rd book, "Alway$ on Sunday," in which he and former Vikings head coach Bud Grant examine the gigantic enterprise pro football has become.

His recent writing has appeared frequently in the Christian Science Monitor. Readers know him as an adventurer-columnist and an engaging commentator on life and society.

But no one is better than Jim at describing the variety of his journalism experiences, which, he points out, have included dancing a tango in the middle of the Nicollet Mall with the late Ginger Rogers and surviving a near fist fight with the late Viking football coach Norm Van Brocklin. (Jim notes that the scuffle with Van Brocklin and the tango with Ginger were equally hazardous, but he didn’t need a tourniquet after dancing with Ginger.)

Jim, of course, isn’t the only well-known Klobuchar in this community. His daughter Amy is Minnesota’s senior U.S. senator.
