How about a ‘musical’ home-remodeling project?
This time of year seems perfect for a carpentry project, so fresh off our major home-remodeling project (done by professionals, not me), I’ve put together a much-easier musical “room addition.”
Curiously, a lot of the musical components turn out to be classic country songs.
My musical room addition will need:
Four walls
• So, we’ll start appropriately with the song “Four Walls,” by the incomparable Jim Reeves.
• The Statler Brothers’ "Flowers on the Wall."
• Faron Young’s “Hello Walls.”
• And Adam Wade’s “The Writing on the Wall,” one of three Top 10 songs he charted in 1961 before dropping out of musical sight.
A ceiling
• Lionel Richie’s party song, “Dancing on the Ceiling.”
A couple of flooring choices
• Ernest Tubb’s “Walkin’ the Floor Over You.”
• Paul Nicholas’ “Heaven on the Seventh Floor.”
Door possibilities
• Disc jockey Jim Lowe’s mysterious "Green Door."
• Charlie Rich’s “Behind Closed Doors.”
• Dean Martin’s “The Door Is Still Open to My Heart.”
Lots of window choices
• Steve Lawrence’s “A Room Without Windows.”
• The Hollies’ “Look Through Any Window.”
• Patti Page’s “How Much Is That Doggie in the Window?”
• Dionne Warwick’s touching “The Windows of the World.”
Building supplies and tools
• Some wood, with Joe Dowell’s “Wooden Heart,” the only Billboard No. 1 song with some German lyrics, to my knowledge, and the Beatles’ “Norwegian Wood.”
• Jerry Wallace's "Shutters and Boards."
• Hammer time: Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer” and Trini Lopez’s version of “If I Had a Hammer.”
And two home-repair songs . . .
• Rosemary Clooney's fixer-upper, "This Ole House."
• The Serendipity Singers’ “Don’t Let the Rain Come Down (Crooked Little Man),” with their list of home maintenance tasks.
Next construction project?
No way! I’m not up to Tammy Wynette and George Jones’ “Two Story House.”

a little story...
Don,
I always enjoy your lists. They push me to remember. In this case I am remembering a story rather than a list of songs. Here goes:
So Bob Dylan and the Band were downstairs working on the BASEMENT tapes when they decided to take a break. So they went up the STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN and at the top they met the ROOFTOP singers, who were in the living room admiring the majic CARPET (ride). They all decided to go outside and admire the GREEN GREEN GRASS OF HOME and while in the front yard they noticed that their street was full of LITTLE BOXES made of "ticky tacky", a very depressing sight. They were all so depressed they were ready to RUN RUN RUN away, so as a group they TURN TURN TURN toward the street when they saw a vehicle coming down the street.
That's when Dylan cried, "THEY'RE COMING TO TAKE ME AWAY HA HA!"
As Roy Orbison said, "IT'S OVER."
with apologies....
Correction
They had to go out the DOORS before they could TURN TURN TURN.
...and she's still building new additions...
Ellen Mcllwaine..but "Can't find my way home"....still alive and performing; very special; almost a cult figure -blues/rock singer, guitarist - under respected in her prime which is then and now...
