    Some fans think bird is still the word

    The Trashmen was a popular rock and roll band started in Minneapolis in the 1960s. Their most notable hit was "Surfin‚ Bird" in 1963. Earlier this month, the Minnesota man responsible for the success of this hit, Amos Heilicher, died at age 90. At his peak, Heilicher accounted for 10 percent of the records sold in the United States.

    The video below is from American Bandstand, with an intro by an even younger looking Dick Clark that leads to a very original solo lip-synch performance by drummer Steve Wahrer. Clark's interview starts at around minute 2:40.
