U student takes national spotlight to sing on 'American Idol'

By Ken Ronnan | Published Tue, Feb 17 2009 3:38 pm

University of Minnesota student Casey Carlson, 20, performs tonight on the popular Fox television show, "American Idol." Carlson, originally from Eden Prairie, auditioned for the show in Kansas City and was chosen by the judges as one of  36 contestants to go to Hollywood. Tonight, contestants will be narrowed down to a top 12, with Carlson possibly making the cut.  Before performing on national television, Carlson performed in several venues in the Twin Cities, including First Avenue and the 400 Bar. Here's video of Carlson at the 2007 Minnesota State Fair idol competition before she became famous.
