Fallout over Jesse Ventura's recent media blitz

MSNBC's "Morning Joe" took notice of former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura’s recent media tour on torture and host Joe Scarborough had a few things to say about it.

"Perhaps Jesse should stop smoking whatever Jesse's been smoking and keep his mouth shut about things he knows absolutely nothing about. This is a guy who, by the way -- I must continue to say this -- that got paid two million dollars by this network, did one show and sucked so bad that they sent him back to Minnesota and said we never want to see you again. I wish I was that bad," Scarborough said.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani also throws in his two-cents.

Yesterday, on "Fox and Friends," Ventura and co-host Brian Kilmeade got into a heated debate. "I'm not worried about the terrorists' welfare. I'm worried about what our country stands for, not the terrorists' welfare," Ventura said, adding, "Where is it going to end?"

And on "The O'Reilly Factor," Bill O'Reilly had this to say about Ventura: "I don't want to confuse the former governor with facts. Let's just say on this one he is a pinhead."

Jesse's head is entirely too large, and unlike Mr. O'Reilly's, filled with entirely too much sense to be a "pinhead".

Frankly, Jesse is quite smart. By stirring up the torture pot and going after right-wing media a little big, he is guaranteed more media coverage and promotion for his book. It also helps that he's clearly on the right side of the issue.

i think that during training jessie may have been waterboarded one too manny times.

Nobody can deny that Jesse Ventura is a little nutty. But when it comes to the topic of torture, he makes better sense than Vice President Cheney any day of the week. Yet the media treat this pathological liar as if he were a respectable elder statesman.

I am tired of Cheney and his apologists referencing "facts" that "prove" that torture works. These facts do not exist, and I challenge anyone to demonstrate otherwise. Torture never produces the truth except by accident, and there are better ways to uncover the truth, if that's really what we want to do. Evidence that torture generates false testimony, on the other hand, is bountiful. Just look up the history of the witch trials.

Former Governor Ventura was never afraid to speak his mind. Whether one agreed with him or not was besides the point.

I miss his candor and a few of his better ideas. Too bad that both sides of the aisle held a grudge after his beating them in the gubernatorial election.

Aside from some of his off color statements. Ventura could have been a lot more effective as governor had the opposition parties allowed some his ideas to come to fruition. The partisanship that was on display was obvious.
