Michele Bachmann draws U.S. Census info line
By Ken Ronnan | 06/25/09
Rep. Michele Bachmann has made it clear she will not fully complete the 2010 U.S. Census form. She says abuse of the U.S. Census information helped lead to the collection of Japanese-Americans in internment camps during World War II. Citing a lack of privacy, Bachmann claims she'll do her constitutional duty and fill out limited Census information, but U.S. Census officials say that is just not good enough.
Read more about why Bachmann and her family won't complete the 2010 census and what U.S. Census officials are saying.

HMMM... So they found all the Japanese Americans by misusing census data and put them in internment camps. First, I'd have to see that factually verified since Micky has such an outstanding ability to pull "facts" out of thin air.
But considering how wonderful she makes my friends here in Minnesota look every time she opens her mouth I can't help but wonder if there are questions on the census by which we might be able to identify conservative Christofascist wingnuts like Bachman and her closest friends and... help them find their way out to some nice, quiet pasture somewhere?
Perhaps spending a bit of quiet time at a currently unused Bible Camp together with a LOT of study of the Gospels might help them feel comforted, reduce their paranoia, and even enable to them to learn something about compassion.
At least the Census is established constitutionally. But if privacy is the core issue, why wasn't Representative Bachmann going batsh-t over warrantless communications spying on American citizens during the Bush Administration days?
The Census conduct and data are tightly and very publically controlled and supervised. By contrast there was no adult supervision over the spooks in the Bush Admin spying on Americans, and we still don't know what data were collected on whom, how the data were used. Other than it didn't help capture Osama Bin Laden or anybody like that.
Michele, making an issue of the census, is like a turkey voting for an early Thanksgiving. If Minnesota loses a Congressional seat, it's very likely that hers will be the one that is lost.
That said, the only thing that matters about the census is the population count, so I do wonder whether it makes any sense to discourage the filling out of the form by putting in a lot of extraneous stuff. Still, if we do want to retain 8 Congressional seats, even at the price of having one of them occupied by Michele Bachmann, it's vital that everyone return the form.
