Goldy Gopher imitates praying football player

A fan video taken during a gopher football game has the University of Minnesota apologizing after its Goldy the Gopher mascot poked fun at Penn State football player Jerome Hayes.

Hayes kneels down to pray in the end zone before the game Oct 17. Goldy Gopher kneels down in front of Hayes to get a reaction. Then they both stand up and Hayes walks away while Goldy makes a motion of a tear running down his face.

University spokesman Dan Wolter wrote in an e-mail, "We have reiterated to Goldy the importance of exercising appropriate religious sensitivity in the future."

Note to Goldy: It might be dangerous to mock a 6-foot-2, 240-pound football player when your only armor is a fuzzy animal suit.
