    Historical Society Library brings the books to you

    The Minnesota Historical Society library in St. Paul has more than 500,000 unique and rare volumes available for public research. But unlike a public library, the Minnesota Historical Society has closed stacks. 

    Acquisitions librarian Patrick Coleman reveals how the closed stack system works to preserve these books for future generations and ensures books will always be available when needed. Follow along behind the scenes to see where the books are stored, and how they make their way to the reading room.
