Ideas Project: A new resource -- and way -- for innovators to connect

By Steve Borsch | Tuesday, May 12, 2009

    Ideas Project

On our respective journeys heading toward a world where the Internet is at the heart of connection, communication, commerce, work, play, education, health care and so much more, it's an incredible delight to come across a site like the Ideas Project. The effort is described by its organizers as "...an entirely new way to connect with some of the most visionary and influential thought leaders in communications technology and their disruptive ideas.

A project of Nokia, hosted at www.ideasproject.com, Ideas Project brings together these important big thinkers to contemplate the big ideas that matter most to the future of communications, linking them through video clips, links, articles, podcasts and dynamic maps to push the boundaries of web navigation and the thought process itself."

Top thought leaders in a variety of spaces are brought together — aggregated, really, since it appears most media are hosted elsewhere — and there are big ideas for you whether you're in a Fortune 100 corporation or are a start-up.

At Minnov8, we're constantly hunting for Internet and web-centric resources that will help you convince and motivate your colleagues, investors, bosses, (or spouses if need be), that this “Internet thingy” is actually the greatest shift any of us will live through in our lifetime. To get a taste of what the Ideas Project is offering with innovation ideas, here are two videos you might find as interesting as I did...

    1) If you're a start-up or leading a consumer brand, venture capital investor Christine Herron sees a large trend of both start-ups and leading-edge consumer brands taking advantage of the deep web and the social media becoming connected. Like a small-town doctor, today's emerging companies can better serve consumers by knowing both what they need and where it's needed, through the consolidation of online identities, consumer behaviors, and social personas.

    2) Don Tapscott is a guy I first came across in the late 1990s, when I read his book, “Growing Up Digital: The Rise of the Net Generation.” Tapscott is chairman of the business strategy think tank New Paradigm (now nGenera) and also authored another book I enjoyed, “Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything,” which explained the business and social impact of the first generation to come of age in the digital age.

In this video, Tapscott sees the web becoming a tool for innovation as institutions recognize its potential to connect worldwide communities of problem-solvers.
