As readers of MinnPost.com, you may have sampled our daily PDF, MinnPost in Print, by downloading and printing it from this site. Or perhaps you have picked up a copy at one of our distribution points in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
As of February 12, 2008, MinnPost will no longer be physically distributing MinnPost in Print, except that we will continue to distribute a limited number of MinnPost in Print copies at the Capitol during the legislative session.
MinnPost in Print will still be available by downloading the PDF from any one of MinnPost.com's pages.
MinnPost launched three months ago, and the daily online news site that you are reading now is off to a great start. We are currently averaging more than 6,500 visits to our site each weekday, and about half a million page views per month. Thank you for being among those visitors.
More than 3,200 people have signed up to receive our daily email newsletter alerting them that new stories have been published. (If you haven't done that yet, do it now.) And while all content at MinnPost is free, more than 750 people have chosen to become annual members by making a tax-deductible donation. (You can do that here.) All these numbers are growing steadily.
Hundreds of readers download and print their own copies of MinnPost in Print. For three months, we distributed 1,500 copies each weekday — to promote our work, to serve readers who prefer to read a printed copy, and to see if the printed version could become self-sustaining through the sale of advertising.
The promotional value has been achieved, and our advertisers clearly prefer the online environment. So we have concluded that print advertising is not going to cover the costs of distributing printed copies. To make the best use of our donors' dollars we have made the decision to cease the printing and distribution, except that we will continue to distribute a limited number of copies at the Capitol during the legislative session. The PDF will continue to be published on this site every weekday.
