Senate recount update: Friedberg to be Coleman lawyer for trial

Joe Friedberg, the high-powered Twin Cities lawyer, will be Norm Coleman’s trial lawyer for the court challenge of the State Canvassing Board’s decision that Al Franken won the recount in the Minnesota Senate race.

Friedberg is also the lawyer for Coleman's alleged benefactor Nasser Kazeminy.

The case is scheduled to start Jan. 26.

Here's the court's remedy I'd like to see.

A runoff election in two months with three options... Coleman, Franken, or none-of-the-above.

This should help reduce the "dirty" campaigning, since to win, Coleman or Franken would need over 50% of the votes cast.

If neither candidate receives over 50% of the vote, Governor Pawlenty appoints someone else to serve as our U.S. senator until the 2010 election.
