Five of the DFLers considering a run for governor in 2010 gathered in Bemidji Monday for roast beef, Pawlenty bashing and some very early bids for support. They made their pitches at the Beltrami County DFL’s annual Presidents Day fundraiser at the Bemidji Eagles Club.

According to the Bemidji Pioneer, the common theme was a dislike for Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s proposed budget.

Attending were: former Minnesota House Minority Leader Matt Entenza of St. Paul, Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner, Rep. Paul Thissen of Minneapolis, state Sen. Tom Bakk, DFL-Cook, and former U.S. Sen. Mark Dayton.

Former state Sen. Steve Kelley, another gubernatorial hopeful, wasn’t there but sent a letter.

Former Bemidji area legislator Frank Moe said: “Any one of these candidates would be far better than the one we have now. Maintaining the status quo — that’s not what this is about.”
