Mayor Rybak anxious for stimulus, says he'll create green jobs
Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak wants Congress to pass the stimulus bill quickly.
“Today I stand with mayors from across the country to urge members of Congress to pass President Obama’s economic stimulus plan and pass it now,” he said Monday. “This plan will create jobs, stimulate the economy and rebuild our infrastructure to compete in the global economy of the 21st century.”
When/if the money comes this way, Rybak would use some to create "green" jobs. He'd train workers to weatherize as many as 800 homes in Minneapolis. That would also reduce energy costs for low- and moderate-income residents, he said.
When KARE-TV ran a story on the web about the Rybak plan, most making comments were negative, some noting that maybe there already are trained people, out of work, who could do the job.
Rybak also noted that increased federal aid would help Minnesota “keep more cops on the street and teachers in the classroom.”
