Allen Quist thinking about run for Congress in 1st District
Allen Quist, a former Republican state representative who's run for governor twice, appears to be well on the way to mounting a campaign to challenge DFL Congressman Tim Walz in the 1st District.
Quist e-mailed MPR's Tom Scheck today, in response to a query about whether Quist is in the race or filed paperwork with the FEC:
"The paperwork is in process. I have formed an exploratory committee, but that is on hold for the time being because I want to try to make a difference on the health care Bill (somewhat of a moving target to be sure) that Speaker Pelosi is attempting to pass."
Scheck and Rachel Stassen-Berger at the Strib note that Quist has a web page, and Facebook page, which both focus on health care but are titled "Quist for Congress." The Facebook page says: "Currently running for Congress."
And Quist has scheduled health care forums in Rochester, Worthington and Mankato — all 1st District cities.

Twenty years ago Quist was in the 'just to the right of Genghis Khan' category -- by today's standards he's probably a 'moderate' Republican.
And Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid make me long for Genghis Khan
