State Sen. Tarryl Clark and Dr. Maureen Reed — the two top DFL contenders to face incumbent Congresswoman Michele Bachmann in the 6th District House race — report raising lots of cash in 2009.

Clark said she raised more than $600,000 from more than 5,000 individual donors in 22 weeks after announcing her plans to run. Her fourth-quarter numbers were $293,953 from 2906 donors — including 2,622 new donors, she said. And she ended the year with about $389,000 cash on hand.

Earlier, Reed reported that she’d raised $575,000 in 2009, after joining the race in the spring. She raised $208,000 in the fourth quarter and had $388,000 cash on hand at the end of the year.

Incumbent Bachmann spent about $3.5 million during the 2007-2008 campaign cycle, according to OpenSecrets.org.

  1. I have a feeling that even with what went on in MA, people here in MN are watching and democrat or independent; you better be playing it right or the same fate might happen here. We have nowhere near the liberal populous that exists on the east and west coasts and I suspect folks are a bit more centered. It will indeed be an interesting race.
