Census road tour comes to Midtown Global Market tonight
A road tour to stress the importance of the coming census —and provide information about temporary jobs in the people-counting project — comes to Minneapolis tonight.
Congressman Keith Ellison and Census Bureau Director Robert Groves will speak at the event, which runs from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Midtown Global Market, 920 E. Lake St., Minneapolis.
Officials want to persuade people to fill out the census forms because the information gathered will be used to allocate the 435 seats in Congress, and directly affects how more than $400 billion per year in federal funding is distributed to tribal, state and local governments and nonprofit organizations serving their communities.
A census jobs recruitment kiosk will be set up as part of the Community Fest.
