Proposed Senate tax bill doesn't include checkoff provision to help homeless

It’s looking less likely that Minnesota taxpayers will be able to donate to food shelves or prevention programs for homelessness by checking a box on their tax returns.
The provision was not included in the omnibus tax bill presented today to the Senate Taxes Committee. This diminishes the likelihood that the checkoff will be in the bill's final version, although a legislator could try to amend the bill to include it.
Chief author Sen. Ellen Anderson, DFL-St. Paul, who is not a member of the taxes committee, said last week the proposal had “a pretty good chance” of inclusion in the bill.
