A forum Saturday on issues important to the Hmong community will be attended by a group of elected officials, including state House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, who’s running for governor.
Sponsored by TakeActionMinnesota, and its political campaign spin-off, ReNew Minnesota — which supports Kelliher — the forum will examine issues that affect the Hmong community, particularly:
- Implementation of Hmong history into the curriculum of the St. Paul Public Schools
- Hmong funeral home cost reduction
- Hmong veterans benefits and burial rights at Fort Snelling Cemetery
- Minneapolis Police reform
- 2010 Governor’s Race: meaning and impact on Minnesota’s Hmong community
Other community leaders participating are:
- Rena Moran (candidate, Minnesota House District 65A)
- Ka Zoua Kong Thao (member, St. Paul School Board)
- Dan McGrath (executive director, TakeAction Minnesota)
- John Quincy (member, Minneapolis City Council)
The forum runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Hmong American Alliance Church, 2515 Maplewood Drive N., Maplewood.
