Independence Party candidate Rob Hahn names former legislator as running mate
Rob Hahn, who is challenging endorsed Independence Party gubernatorial candidate Tom Horner in the August primary, has selected Thomas Harens to be the lieutenant governor pick on the ballot.
Harens served one term in the Legislature in 1982, when he was 25, and ran for president in 2004 on the Christian Freedom Party ticket, getting about 2,400 votes in Minnesota. Hahn says that campaign was in protest of right-wing abuse of religious issues.
Harens also ran for mayor in St. Paul in 1997 with the Reform Party.
Hahn's campaign notes that Harens "managed popular 1980s recording artists Limited Warranty. In 1991, Harens returned from Los Angeles to develop electric vehicle technology as government relations director for St. Cloud-based E-Tran Inc."
