Jerry Bell, Twins ballpark general, announces retirement plans
By Jay Weiner | 01/06/11
Jerry Bell, Carl Pohlad's righthand man on stadium matters, is stepping back from his day-to-day duties as president of Twins Sports Inc., the franchise's umbrella company.
Bell, 69, worked for a decade to get a Twins stadium bill passed in the Legislature and then another four to see Target Field designed and opened. He told Twins staffers today of his path towards retirement. But not exactly yet, said Twins spokesman Kevin Smith.
Smith said Jim Pohlad, one of the late Carl's sons who is now heading up the team's executive board, has asked Bell to stay on on a part-time basis to help on unspecified "special projects."
We detailed Bell's career last spring when the new ballpark opened.
