Twins star Joe Mauer will kick off the annual Neighborhood House food drive Wednesday with an appearance at the community center on St. Paul's West Side.
Mauer, along with Twins announcer Dick Bremer and minor-leaguer Anthony Slama, will be at the Neighborhood House auditorium, 179 E. Robie St., St. Paul, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. Those attending are asked to bring a nonperishable food item. There will be no time for autographs, the organization says.
Neighborhood House says it has Ramsey County's largest food shelf, providing 3,000 pounds of food each day and serves 39,000 families each year.
Its annual March Campaign to collect money and food raised $69,560 last year; this year, it's aiming for $140,000 in pounds of food and cash donations said Armando Camacho, president of Neighborhood House.
