Alternate teacher licensing on fast track to passage

Following Monday's compromise on the alternative teacher licensing bill between Gov. Mark Dayton and Republican legislative leaders, the bill was approved by a conference committee this morning and is headed to the House and Senate for final passage.

In his Monday letter to legislators, Dayton said that although he doesn't agree with everything in the bill — which would make it easier for some to get teaching licenses in the state — he would sign the compromise because much of it was to his liking.

Education Minnesota, though, still doesn't like the bill and says it could lower standards in the classroom.
