Sen. Al Franken says what might have appeared to be a dust-up between former "Saturday Night Live" alums — some texting between him and Tina Fey about her reluctance to contribute to the senator's campaign fund — was all in good fun.
“It was banter between friends. Tina certainly knew I was kidding," Franken said.
His press secretary Ed Shelleby sent the quote after we ran an item based on a Philadelphia paper's gossip item from an interview with Fey, who is promoting a new book.
Fey told the paper that she'd avoided Franken's attempts to hit her up for a campaign contribution, and when he won — after the lengthy recount — she texted: "See, you didn't need my $4,000 to win after all."
Franken, she said, texted back a blunt, two-word message.
