By Joe Kimball | 04/27/11
State and U.S. flags will be at half-staff Thursday on all state and federal buildings to honor Army Specialist Joseph Alan Kennedy of Inver Grove Heights, who was killed in combat April 15 in Afghanistan.
Gov. Mark Dayton ordered the flag lowering on the day of the funeral services for Kennedy, who will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
Kennedy, 25, was a Simley High School graduate, and was a member of the U.S. Army Company D, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Infantry. He was posthumously awarded the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
