GOP legislative leaders plan fly-around to promote 'no-tax increase' stand

GOP legislative leaders are using the Passover/Easter recess to fly around the state promoting their plan to balance the state budget without raising taxes.

Coming to an airport near you on Wednesday will be:

  • Senate Majority Leader Amy Koch of Buffalo
  • Speaker of the House Kurt Zellers of Maple Grove
  • Senate Deputy Majority Leader Geoff Michel of Edina

They plan to meet with the media during quick stops at airports in eight cities:

  • St. Paul, 7:30 a.m., Holman Field Airport
  • Rochester, 8:45 a.m., Rochester International Airport
  • Mankato, 10:15 a.m., Mankato Regional Airport
  • St. Cloud, 11:45 a.m., St. Cloud Regional Airport
  • Moorhead, 1:30 p.m., Moorhead Municipal Airport
  • Bemidji, 3 p.m., Bemidji Regional Airport
  • Alexandria, 4:40 p.m., Alexandria Airport [Chandler Field]
  • Duluth, 6:30 p.m., Duluth International Airport

DFLers will be busy in their districts pushing for a different approach, which calls for higher taxes on high earners, along with some cuts, to ease the deficit.

The buzz words at the capitol this session from the republicans are reform and smaller government and do things a different way.
Now they are getting on an airplane and flying around the state to meet with the media at airports? Come on, this is 2011, video conference, skype, fax machine, smart phone?
I don't think any media member is going to hear anything different than what was said when this session started.
