Fresh off the November election victories that gave the GOP majorities in the Legislature and a congressional seat in the 8th District (and a narrow loss in the governor’s race), Tony Sutton was re-elected Saturday as chair of the Republican Party of Minnesota.

He didn’t even have a challenger, as party members enthusiastically rewarded his performance.

Party delegates at the state Central meeting in Bloomington also re-elected Michael Brodkorb as deputy chair and elected two Republican National Committee members: Hennepin County Commissioner Jeff Johnson — who beat losing gubernatorial candidate Tom Emmer — and former State Auditor Pat Anderson, who lost her November attempt to regain that statewide post.

In February, the DFL state party elected Ken Martin as its new chairman. He was executive director of WIN Minnesota, which funded some of the ads in Mark Dayton’s successful gubernatorial campaign, and he also headed Dayton’s recount team.

The previous DFL chair, Brian Melendez, didn’t seek re-election.
