Dan Severson
Former state Rep. Dan Severson is expected to announce today that he'll run against U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar in 2012.
He'll be the first Republican to formally announce a run against Klobuchar, considered a tough incumbent to beat.
Severson ran for secretary of state last year, losing to incumbent Mark Ritchie.
He served four terms in the House from Sauk Rapids from 2003 to 2010. He's a retired Navy pilot and helped form the Minnesota Organization of Republican Veterans, designed to recruit military veterans for elected office.

I'm very confussed! Dan Severson lost by a big number to Mark Richie last year for secretary of state. Now he thinks he can beat Klobuchar? What on earth is he drinking? Put down the Kool Aid and smell reality Dan. You are going to lose by 20 points to little Amy.
The MN GOP won the MN House & Senate in 2010 by a very small margin because a low (53%) voter turn out in Minnesota. That isn't going to happen in 2012, a presidential year where 65% to 70% of Minnesota will vote and no GOP POTUS candidate has won since 1972. Add to that the horrible public relations problems MN GOP Chairman Tony Sutton has created for the party and you are about to see the DFL winning one or both houses back. Really Dan, does your self worth really resolve around your elected political position?
