Racino gets first hearing tonight in Senate
By Jay Weiner | 05/04/11
The always controversial issue of adding slot machines to the state's two racetracks will get its first hearing tonight when a racino bill is discussed before the Senate State Government Innovation and Veterans Committee. The matter won't be brought up until 6 p.m.
The bill would put substantial slots revenues into a so-called "Minnesota Future" fund for job creation.
The racinos at Canterbury Park and Running Aces would be regulated by the State Lottery.

Here's the obvious question: When state-side support for the Racino is somewhere between 70-80% (depending on what poll you reference), how can this legislation be described as "always controversial"? One would be hard-pressed to find another issue with this level of popular backing.
