Hennepin County’s Eden Prairie Center Service Center — which processes driver’s licenses, passports, marriage licenses, property taxes and provides other governmental services — will close Jan. 20, a victim of budget cuts.

In looking for costs to cut, the county board determined that the Eden Prairie location handles fewer transactions, has fewer customers and generates less revenue than the other six county service centers. It’s been open since 2005 in the former Hennepin County Library building across from Eden Prairie Center.

The county hopes to save $300,000 annually with the closing. Most of the center’s 10 employees will be transferred to openings at other service centers, officials said.

For consumers, the closest open county services centers to Eden Prairie are at Southdale in Edina and at Ridgedale in Minnetonka, officials said.
