Minnesota Vikings defensive end Jared Allen is a headliner for a fundraiser next week organized by a state senator to support food shelves in northern Minnesota.

State Sen. Tom Bakk has been organizing an annual event for Arrowhead area food shelves for five years. This year’s fundraiser, open to the public, is Dec. 6, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Liffey Bar in downtown St. Paul. They hope to raise more than $200,000.

 Said Bakk:

“Due to the poor economy and high unemployment, food shelves are struggling to meet the increased demand. More and more families are stretched to the limit and relying on food shelves to eat. We are doing our part to help, and I encourage all Minnesotans to take some time to help others this holiday season.”

Along with Allen, Gov. Mark Dayton is scheduled to be at the fundraiser. Donations will be funneled through Hunger Solutions Minnesota and go to these food shelves:
