Lisa P. Jackson, administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, will speak at the University of Minnesota's Coffman Memorial Union on Tuesday, talking about the role of science in decision-making protecting our health and promoting a healthy economy.
She'll also touch on recent challenges to national environmental laws in the talk, which will be streamed online starting at 11 a.m.
President Obama appointed Jackson to the top EPA post in 2009; she's been included on Time magazine’s 2010 and 2011 lists of the "100 Most Influential People in the World."
Moderating the event will be University Professor Deborah Swackhamer, the Denny Chair in Science, Technology, and Public Policy and co-director of the University of Minnesota’s Water Resources Center. She's also a professor of Environmental Health Sciences in the School of Public Health and serves as chair of the EPA’s Chartered Science Advisory Board.
