Friday is the last day to conduct government transactions at Hennepin County's Eden Prairie Service Center; it closes for good after that, because of county budget cuts.
So starting Saturday, the nearest places for folks in that area to get licenses, registrations, birth and death certificates and such will be county service centers at Southdale in Edina and Ridgedale in Minnetonka. There are also service centers at Brookdale, downtown, Maple Grove and Midtown Minneapolis.
The Eden Prairie site was chosen for closure because it handles fewer transactions and residents are served by other nearby service centers, said Kathy Schons, service centers division manager.

If you don't need anything Hennepin County specific, there are also service centers in Chanhassen and Chaska that may be closer than Southdale or Ridgedale.
