Rick Nolan adds the IBEW to his list of supporters in 8th District bid

Former Congressman Rick Nolan continues to gain momentum in his comeback attempt, as he adds the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Minnesota State Council to his list of supporters.

Nolan says he's well on his way to getting the DFL endorsement to run in November against Republican freshman Congressman Chip Cravaack in the 8th District.

But a summer primary is expected, anyway. Former state Sen. Tarryl Clark has said she'll run in a primary regardless of the convention results. Also seeking the DFL nod is Duluth Council Member Jeff Anderson.

Nolan was in Congress from the old 6th District, covering southwestern Minnesota, from 1975 to 1980.

Nolan's statement on the endorsement:

"I am so honored to have IBEW standing with us in our campaign to end the right wing war on workers, establish single payer health care and the Employee Free Choice Act, protect pensions and prevailing wages, and restore middle class jobs and buying power. Working families need a champion and a leader who will stand firm regardless of the political risk.  I intend to be that champion and leader."

Other union groups backing Nolan include the Teamsters Joint Council 32, the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) and UA Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 11.
