Recovering Gov. Dayton will be back in action to present budget
Gov. Mark Dayton is meeting with his commissioners today in the Governor's Residence, where he continues to recuperate from his holiday back surgery at the Mayo Clinic.
He and the commissioners are putting the finishing touches on the governor's proposed budget, which he'll present to lawmakers later this month.
"The governor is doing great following surgery. He is walking around — a little slow, but no cane or anything like that," said spokeswoman Katharine Tinucci.
And she said he'll be "back on his feet" in time for the Jan. 22 budget announcement.
The Dec. 27 surgery involved fusing a vertebra that is shifting out of alignment to relieve constriction in his lower back. He's been working out of the residence since leaving the Rochester hospital on Jan. 1.
The governor also has planned his State of the State speech for Feb. 6 at the Capitol.
