Tama Theis gets GOP endorsement for special election in House District 14A

St. Cloud area Republicans have endorsed Tama Theis in the special election for House District 14A to be held Feb. 12.

She beat former St. Cloud City Council Member John Severson and Iraq War veteran Scott MacHardy at the Saturday convention.

The special election will fill the seat of GOP state Rep. Steve Gottwalt, who resigned after winning re-election in November because he got a lobbying job.

The St. Cloud Times said:

Theis, of St. Cloud, has not held elected office. She co-owns Greg E. Theis Remodeling, is a member of St. Cloud’s Transportation Infrastructure Advisory Board and served as president of the board of the Central Minnesota Builders Association. Theis also is president of the board of Birthline Inc., a St. Cloud center that gives crisis counseling and services to pregnant women on options other than abortion.

One DFLer has announced interest in running for the traditionally Republican seat: Joanne Dorsher, a former St. Cloud school board member and a House candidate against Gottwalt in 2008.
