Former DFL state Rep. Jeremy Kalin jumps into secretary of state race

Jeremy Kalin, a DFLer who served two terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives, is formally entering the race for secretary of state.

He's the third DFLer now in the race, hoping to replace Secretary of State Mark Ritchie, who isn't seeking re-election in 2014.

Also in the race are DFL state Rep. Debra Hilstrom and elections administrator Rachel Larson Bohman.

Republican candidates are certainly expected, too, but none have formally announced.

Kalin represented Chisago County in the Legislature but has now moved to Minneapolis and is an energy consultant.

On his campaign website, he says: "I know the daily challenges of family businesses and Main Street businesses. I am excited to leverage the business services side of the office to strengthen small businesses — the backbone of our economy — and to encourage new business growth."
