John Stiles, the communications director for Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, will be chief of staff for Mayor-elect Betsy Hodges when she takes office in January.

In announcing the appointment today, Hodges said:

“John Stiles has the experience in the mayor’s office, the determination to build a strong team that gets results for people, and the heart for Minneapolis to do an outstanding job as chief of staff and help move our city forward.”

Rybak agreed:

“Betsy has made a brilliant choice. John knows almost every aspect of what can come up in a mayor’s office, and has enormous capacity to handle many different tasks at one time that will serve Mayor Hodges well.”

Stiles previously has been campaign manager for St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman, communications director for the Minnesota DFL Party and aide to Ramsey County Commissioner Toni Carter.

Hodges won the mayoral election earlier this month, beating 34 other candidates.

Stiles said in a statement:

“I’m excited to work with Mayor-elect Hodges to build on the strong, vibrant city that Mayor Rybak and she have built, and help steer it and our partners to meet our biggest challenge: ending racial disparities in jobs, health and education. When Minneapolis comes together and solves that challenge, there will be no limit to our greatness.”
