Minnesota native Alex Conant’s name is in the news this week, as his boss, Sen. Marco Rubio, kicks off a presidential campaign.

Conant has been press secretary for Rubio, a Florida Republican, since 2011. Before that, Conant spent six months as press secretary for Tim Pawlenty’s presidential campaign.

Conant is from Sunfish Lake, and has a B.A. and a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

He’s also worked for Pawlenty’s PAC, been press secretary for the Republican National Committee, a spokesman at the White House under President Bush, deputy press secretary of the White House Office of Management and Budget, and started his career as press secretary for Sen. John Thune.

Last summer Conant married Caitlin O’Conner Dunn, communications director for Sen. Rob Portman, an Ohio Republican.
