The Gateway Corridor Commission is taking the long view on its quest to build a 12-mile bus rapid transit project between Woodbury and St. Paul.

Even though the Legislature didn’t act this year on a request for $3 million to continue planning, the commission said today that it will regroup and keep working.

Washington County Commissioner Lisa Weik, chair of the Gateway Corridor Commission, said:

“We had hoped for $3 million this session, but we’ll do what we can to stay on schedule for a 2022 opening.”

The bus route, which they’re calling the Gold Line, would run along I-94 and Hudson Road to connect Woodbury with the Union Depot in St. Paul, where there is a connection to the Green Line light rail route.

The project had received $2 million from the Legislature in the 2014 bonding bill, and had asked for $3 million more this year to fund engineering and environmental analysis work.
