President Barack Obama is scheduled to give a speech on the economy Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The president’s take on the economy will be at 1:20 p.m. at the Recreational Eagle Center. It’s open to the public.

Wisconsin Republicans are using the visit as an opportunity to discredit the president’s policies. In a statement, the Republican Party of Wisconsin said: “As the stagnant economy continues to struggle under the weight of President Obama’s bloated federal government, his visit to La Crosse should remind voters that his failed policies continue exacerbating the problem.”

Obama has been to La Crosse once before, as a candidate in 2008. A sitting president hasn’t been there since 2004, when President George W. Bush appeared twice for campaign events, said the La Crosse Tribune.
