Luther Dale, a minister from Shoreview who’s long been active on environmental issues, will get a national award Saturday from the Sierra Club.

Dale will get the William E. Colby Award at the Sierra Club’s annual award event in San Francisco.

The group says “Dale has  served as chair of the Sierra Club’s North Star Chapter in Minnesota and helped lead an effort to strengthen the relationship between Sierra Club chapters and the national office.”

The North Star Chapter says Dale, who retired in 2012 from his work as a pastor at Incarnation Lutheran Church, “has been involved in environmental issues for over 30 years, most recently as a member of the Club’s Shoreview Green Community and Building Environmental Communities Steering Committee. He is an avid hiker, biker and canoeist.”

Also getting big awards from the group this weekend are Sen. Harry Reid and Alan Rusbridger, the recently retired as editor of The Guardian newspaper in London.
