Anti-war groups deploy lawn signs in Norm Coleman's neighborhood

By Joe Kimball | Published Thu, Mar 27 2008 7:50 am

U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman will have some outspoken company today in his St. Paul neighborhood when war protesters from Americans United for Change, ACORN, Alliance for a Better Minnesota and USAction gather in a nearby park. They're going to hand out anti-war lawn signs to neighbors in the Victoria-St. Clair-Osceoloa neighborhood. They're meeting at 11 a.m. in Linwood Park.

The signs say: "Invest in America, Not Endless War in Iraq."

Coleman has seen political opponents' lawn signs on his neighbors' lawns before; when he ran against Paul Wellstone six years ago, there were lots more Wellstone lawn signs on his patch of Osceola (including a giant one on the corner) than Coleman signs. There was one Coleman sign in Coleman's own yard.

Then again, there were several Coleman signs in Wellstone's neighborhood that year, too, during the first phase of that historic election campaign that tragically changed when Wellstone was killed in a plane crash and Walter Mondale became the last-minute DFL candidate.
