    See and be seen at the Millard Fillmore Dinner

    Another call has gone out to purchase tickets for St. Paul's May 8 Millard Fillmore Dinner, the city's annual town hall gathering to celebrate the Mississippi River. Over the years, it's become the see-and-be-seen tradition in downtown St. Paul, with a who's who attending from the worlds of government, business and nonprofits.

    Last year, 1,200 people attended; I sat at a table with Par Ridder, former publisher of both local dailies.

    Guest speaker this year is Rudy Maxa, the savvy traveler from public radio and television.

    The event at the St. Paul RiverCentre begins with a 5 p.m. reception, dinner at 6:30 p.m. and the program follows. Cost is $60. Deadline for tickets is April 29.
