Rep. Joe Atkins, a DFLer from Inver Grove Heights, has apparently taken a look at the Delta acquisition of Northwest Airlines and didn't like what he saw. Atkins, who chairs the House Commerce and Labor Committee, will hold hearings on the proposal Friday and Tuesday, according to Session Daily, the newsletter from the House Public Information Services.
Atkins told Session Daily that Northwest should be accountable for some $445 million in state loans and should pay for removing its headquarters and thousands of jobs from the state — some $1 billion, by his figuring. Atkins also has a bill calling on the state to enforce breaches of contract, citing specifically the Northwest case.
